Captain Jack Dyess is our lead instructor. His qualifications to teach these courses are listed
below:

GENERAL EDUCATION:
• Bachelor of Science Degree, University of Omaha (Omaha, NB)
• Masterof Science Degree, University of Nebraska at Omaha
• Teaches U.S. Coast Guard, American Sailing Association and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department
boater education classes
• Provides expert witness services for boating related legal actions
• Develops training curriculum, training aids, etc., for boating organizations.

PRIOR OCCUPATIONS (Full-time):
• Non-commissioned Officer (Technical Sergeant) – U.S. Air Force
• Commissioned Officer (Major) – U.S. Army
• High School Teacher. Fort Worth Independent School District.
• State Boating Education Coordinator, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

BOATING LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
• U.S. Coast Guard, Master Mariner License (100 ton vessels up to 200 miles off-shore) with
Commercial Assistance Towing and Sail/Auxiliary Sail Endorsements
• U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Motorboat Operator License
• National Association of Boating Law Administrators, Boater Safety Instructor Certification
• International Personal Watercraft Rescue Specialists, Instructor Certification
• Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Boater Education Master Instructor Certification
• American Sailing Association, Sailing Instructor Certification (6 levels from basic sailing to all
weather off-shore sailing)
• American Sailing Association, Sailing Instructor Trainer Certification (1 of only 27 in U.S.)

• American Sailing Association, Instructor of the Year (4 consecutive years)
• National Safe Boating Congress, Regional Award (12 state region)
• Past member National Association of State Boating Law Administrators’ Education Committee
• Member US Power and Sail Squadrons
• Author of a university level textbook, several magazine articles and training manuals
• Charter member and past vice-president, North Texas Water Safety Coalition
• Member of the 1975-1977 United States Orienteering Teams
• Past President of the United States Orienteering Federation
• On February 6, 2008, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, commissioned Captain Dyess as an “'. . . Admiral
of the Texas Navy', in recognition of exemplary service to Texas, the United States of America, and
mankind in general.
